We’re back in Minnesota! This Hidden Falls (Yes, another one! There are a lot of waterfalls named Hidden Falls!) is just south of Northfield in Nerstrand Big Woods State Park. Bring it on 2017, I am truly excited to see what you will bring our adventure quartet!Ī photo posted by Bobby, Maura, Jack & Rowan on at 6:43pm PST I’m forever grateful for my partner by my side and our two sidekicks screaming and giggling along with us. As I continue on my journey of healing I know there will be many miles of trails to navigate and for the first time in a long time I am actually looking forward to the bumpy road ahead of me.The time in the woods with our two tots in tow did amazing things for my heart and soul. It was a brief hike to a beautiful frozen waterfall.

So, today we took the plunge and went on our first solo family adventure at Big Woods State Park in southern MN. For the past 5 years we have had a tradition of going for a hike on New Year’s Day.Thankfully, there’s been a break in the weather and it actually occurred on a weekend so we finally hit the trails today. Having a baby at the beginning of a winter in a state notorious for its cold climate made this particular piece of self-care virtually impossible to achieve. How they can help, what they should and shouldn’t say, etc… A huge part of my self-care routine is going to the woods and going for hikes. Speaking up for myself and telling people what I need. Equally important on this road to recovery is self-care. The support of my family has been pivotal as I’ve been on this journey of healing. It’s taken me many weeks to realize these things. I definitely shouldn’t feel like a failure. I have nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed of.Soon enough I learned that I am most definitely not alone and that, on average, 15% of women suffer from Postpartum Mood Disorders. After encouragement from my loving husband and family I sought help for Postpartum Depression and Anxiety. Struggled to adjust to a life with two children.

Since the arrival of our daughter, Rowan, in late October I have struggled. In fact, the falls used to support a mill which is why the town built up around the falls.ĭistance from MPLS: 47 miles (55 minutes) This waterfall is right near downtown Osceola so after you check out the waterfall you can walk through this historic small town. But if you want a longer hike check out their trail guide.ĭistance from MPLS: 34 miles (40 minutes)Ĭost: $11 for Minnesotans (or have a WI State Park pass)Īnother Wisconsin waterfall that’s close to the Minnesota border is Cascade Falls. If you park in the falls parking lot off of County Road A it’s a short. Willow Falls is an amazing tiered waterfall set within a 200-foot deep sandstone gorge. Ironically, the next closest falls to Minneapolis is across the border in Wisconsin. #GetOutside #nature #optoutside #keepitwild #exploremore #goexplore #discoverwisconsin #discoverearth #outdoors #hiking #hikersofinstagram #wi #wisconsin #Hudson #willowfalls #frozenwaterfall #waterfall #ice #snow #cold #water #flowingwater
